Course Offerings

Architectural and Interior Design

A comprehensive approach to both residential and commercial projects. Project analysis, creating a program, conceptual design, space planning, design development and the necessary construction document set that is required.  

Introduction to Construction Documents

Convey the intent of a design by learning to draw plans, sections, elevations, and details. The methods and tools for drawing sets of plans, are discussed. Emphasis is on developing drafting skills and how to approach the beginnings of producing drawings for the building process.

Advanced Construction Documents

This class further develops construction plans for interior design. There is an emphasis on space planning, elevations and sections, furniture plans, reflective ceiling plans, staircases, and detailing.  

Documents for Plumbing, Electricity, and Air conditioning Systems

Depict plumbing systems, electrical systems, and air conditioning systems in construction plans. Different types of air conditioning systems and how they effect space and design will be discussed.  

Advanced Modeling

Apply conceptual design to a 3D model. Emphasis will be placed on scale and proportion.

Computer Aided Drafting

The technical skill-sets of CAD, and applying existing drafting and design skills to the computerized environment.  

Lighting Design

Lighting design theory and techniques.  

Kitchen and Bath Design

The design process for kitchens and bathrooms. Space planning and  basic plumbing and electrical aspects of design will be discussed.  

Materials

The myriad of textiles, furniture, finishes, woods, stones and metals are surveyed.  

Residential Design

A residential renovation will be used as an example to direct students in the design process from conceptual design to design development including the necessary construction documents.  

Commercial Design

A commercial renovation will be used as an example to direct students in the design process from conceptual design of a commercial space to design development, including the necessary construction documents.  

Business Skills

Discuss the business skills necessary to open and operate an interior design practice. Establish fee structures, negotiate services, and manage and expedite projects. Explore the various players in the building process, including consultants, contractors, and engineers, and  their interactions with specific reference to the interior designer .
